I specialize in chasing Bonefish on the fly. These bones are big. The smallest I have ever seen caught was about 6lbs. It is possible to flirt with the 15lb mark! One should be ready for occasional shots at small tarpon, all size Permit, and always present Barracuda and Sharks. I do see some snook but haven’t really tried to target them. If a bait fisherman hits the right day there is an excellent chance at a Super Grand Slam. There is also snapper in the mangroves.

When the bones are not around I will chase some decent sized sharks considering the water depth. Blacktips up to 6ft or better can be expected. Also in the mix are Bonnethead, Nurse, Lemon and the occasional Bull Shark thrown in for good measure.

The Barracuda are all sizes. I see them from 6 inches to 6ft all the time.
The Snook I see are plenty but would be hard to flyfish for. They live tight inside the channels cutting though the mangroves. It’s not impossible but I spend most of the time chasing bones. I would only recommend this for completion of a Super Slam.

The Permit are always lurking somewhere. I go days without seeing any then there are times I see them several times a day. I see sizes from 3lbs to 40plus lbs.

The Tarpon range from 10lbs to 70lbs but are in shallow water. Usually less than 4ft and as little as 2ft.

I also see many Stingrays, Manatees and Sea Turtles among the grass flats along with multiple species of Waterfowl. Gators, Saltwater Crocs and even Iguanas are a possibility. Sightings will depend on where we fish.

Peacock Bass and Exotics can be readily found in the freshwater canals around urban Miami. Much depends on water level and time of yr. If interested just ask for a current update of freshwater action.
